Indian Trails Middle School is excited to participate in the 15th annual Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! January 23–27, 2023. This statewide event is intended to raise awareness about the importance of reading and inspire students and families to make reading part of their daily routines.

This year's theme is "Take a Deep Dive Into Literacy—Splash Into New Worlds!" With this theme in mind, all of our students will participate in a variety of fun activities during the school day to deepen their knowledge and instill a love of reading. 

ITMS Literacy Week Activities

Monday, January 23
  • Read a biography of a famous swimmer/synchronized swimmer/diver or research a water sport
Tuesday, January 24
  • Read or write poems inspired by the water
Wednesday, January 25
  • Campaign to raise awareness of an endangered or invasive marine species
Thursday, January 26
  • Research a Florida marine habitat
Friday, January 27
  • Visit elementary schools to read aloud (qualified/accepted students)
Other Activities Include:
  • Drop everything and read (D.E.A.R.)
  • Guess the vocabulary word that your teacher is dressed as
  • Wear blue to match the ocean theme
  • Dress as a root word
  • Listen to book trailers on the morning announcements
  • Participate in the Principal book challenge
